Rules

LEGAL PROVISIONS
In addition to the provisions established by law for the operation of the South Shasta Cemetery District the following rules and regulations shall apply.

1) Burial in theSouth Shasta Cemetery District shall be limited in accordance with the California Health and Safety Code beginning with Section 9060 as it now exists or may be hereafter amended. For the purpose of these rules and regulations members of the family of a resident who purchases interment right shall be as described in Section 9002
Article (e) of the California Health and Safety Code.

2) Each purchaser of interment rights shall be issued a certificate of interment rights. The interest acquired by such purchase does not convey title to real property but only grants the right to the perpetual use and occupancy of the parcel of land for burial purposes. No transfer of interment rights shall be made without prior approval of the South Shasta Cemetery District.

LIABILITY
The District, its Board of Trustees, all individual members of said Board, the Manager and all other personnel of the District shall not be responsible for injury or damage suffered by any person, including children, in their use of cemetery grounds. Any person visiting the cemetery shall do so at their own risk.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
A three member Board of Trustees appointed by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors for a four- year term governs the South Shasta Cemetery District in accordance with the California Health and Safety Code. The Board shall employ a manager and such other employees as it determines to be necessary for the operation of the district.

CARE OF GRAVES AND CEMETERY GROUNDS
The absolute control of the cemetery grounds in every particular is vested in the Board of Trustees of the South Shasta Cemetery District. Interment right holders and others are entitled only to such privileges within the cemetery grounds as are provided by these rules and regulations.

INTERMENTS
Each person or firm requesting an interment must contact the South Shasta Cemetery and schedule such interment before making public the time of interment. Final committal services will be scheduled to begin after 9:00 a.m. and no later that 3:00 p.m. Interments on Saturday shall conclude before 12:00 noon. No interment will be made on Sunday.
No interment right holder shall allow any interment to be made in their plot for remuneration

OPENING AND CLOSING
All charges for the interment must be paid prior to opening the grave. The district will open and close the graves for all interments in the South Shasta Cemetery, and install any and all outer burial containers for casket and urn interments.

CASKET AND OUTER BURIAL CONTAINER
A minimum container of wood with handles is required for all interments except cremated remains. An approved urn vault will be required for all in-ground cremation interments. An approved steel reinforced concrete vault will be requires for all casket interments.

FLOWER REGULATIONS
No person shall plant any tree, shrub, flower of any kind on cemetery grounds. Donations of trees are acceptable but will be selected and planted under the direction of the Board of Trustees.

Flowers may be places only in the vases set in marker foundation. If there are no marker on the grave flowers may be placed in unbreakable containers at the head of the grave. No more than two vases / containers will be allowed on any grave.

No person shall place on any grave any statue, toys, boxes, globes, shells, cans, jugs bottles, bric-a-brac or related items of any description during the mowing season between April 1st and November 1st.

Except in the excavation for the completion of an interment no person shall remove any earth or in any way damage the cemetery grounds or leave any debris on any kind thereon. All flowers and rubbish must be placed in containers placed for that purpose.

Any planting that becomes detrimental or unsightly to adjacent plots or cemetery grounds may be removed by the cemetery authority.

No person shall burn any material within cemetery grounds.

DISINTERMENTS
Except when ordered by a court, disinterment will be at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. When allowed, the District shall not be held liable for any damages to the vault, casket or remains.

FEES AND CHARGES
From time to time the Board of Trustees shall establish the prices at which interment rights shall be sold, the fees for opening and closing of graves, the additional fees for performing such service other than during the normal time established by these rules and regulations and fees for all other services performed by the District in connection with the use of cemetery grounds. A schedule of current fees shall be available for inspection at the cemetery office.

In addition to the above fees and charges, the Board of Trustees shall establish the amount to be charged purchasers for deposit in the endowment care fund in accordance to Sections 8738 and 9065 of the California Health and Safety Code.

Nonresident fees shall be charged for interment of persons who are qualified nonresidents according to Section 9060 of the California Health and Safety Code.

REIMBURSEMENT POLICY

POLICY REGARDING REIMBURSEMENT OR TRANSFER OF INTERMENT RIGHTS
ENDOWMENT CARE,SERVICE FEES AND CEMETERY RELATED MERCHENDISE

This policy will include all transactions and sales of interment rights, endowment care
contribution, and cemetery related items conducted prior to the adoption of this policy.
All charges for interment rights, endowment care contribution, service fees, and cemetery
related merchandise are not refundable.
Interment rights, service fees, endowment care contribution and cemetery related merchandise
may be sold or transferred by the owner to any other individual or individuals providing such
changes are conducted through the cemetery office and conform to the rules and regulations of
the cemetery district, now in effect or that may hereafter be adopted, and the California Health
and Safety Code.
